Cookie Policy

Effective date: 2026-07-08

This policy explains how Clippings (https://useclippings.com) uses cookies and similar technologies (local storage, session storage) and how you can control them. It should be read with our Privacy Policy.

1. What Cookies Are

Cookies are small text files stored on your device that let a site remember information between visits or requests — e.g. that you're logged in, or your interface preferences. We also use browser local storage and session storage, which work similarly and are covered by this policy.

2. Categories We Use

CategoryPurposeCan you decline?
Strictly necessaryAuthentication/session (staying signed in) and remembering your cookie choiceNo — required for the Service to function
FunctionalRemembering your light/dark theme preferenceYes, but the app will fall back to a default theme
AnalyticsProduct analytics and session replay (PostHog) and traffic measurement (Google Analytics 4)Yes — off by default; loaded only if you accept, and you can decline or withdraw
MarketingNot currently usedN/A

We use analytics cookies to understand how the Service is used so we can improve it. These are opt-in: we set nothing and load no analytics scripts until you choose Accept in our consent banner. If you Decline (or ignore the banner), no analytics cookies are set, no session replay is recorded, and no analytics requests are sent. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

3. Cookies & Local Storage We Set

`_ga`, `_ga_<stream-id>`AnalyticsGoogle Analytics 4 — distinguishes anonymous users/sessions to measure trafficSet only after you accept; up to ~24 months

The analytics entries above are only created after you accept. If you decline, none of them are set.

4. Analytics, Consent, and Session Replay

Opt-in. For all visitors, analytics are off until you click Accept in the banner. Your choice is stored locally (see `cl-cookie-consent`) so the banner does not reappear. Declining keeps analytics fully off.

Who processes the data. When you accept:

  • PostHog (EU Cloud — data stored in the European Union) provides product analytics and

session replay. Analytics requests are routed first-party through `useclippings.com` to PostHog.

  • Google Analytics 4 (Google) measures site traffic.

Both are listed as sub-processors in our Privacy Policy.

What analytics events contain. We record product events (for example: page views, sign-in, uploads, clip and draft generation, and subscription changes) with contextual properties such as plan and counts. We do not put personal information (name, email, message content) into these event properties. If you are signed in and have accepted analytics, your account email is attached to your analytics *profile* (not to individual events) so we can recognise returning users.

Session replay. With PostHog, accepting analytics also enables session replay, which records how you move through and interact with pages so we can reproduce and diagnose issues. Text you type into input fields is masked by default. *(Confirm your PostHog project's masking settings match this description before publishing.)*

How to withdraw or change your choice. Use the Cookie preferences link — in our site footer and at the bottom of this page — to re-open the banner and switch between Accept and Decline at any time. Declining stops analytics collection and turns off session replay. You can also clear this site's cookies and local storage, or use your browser's cookie/site-data controls.

Blocking the strictly-necessary session cookie will prevent you from staying signed in.

5. Regional Notices

EEA / UK. Strictly-necessary cookies (the auth session cookie and your stored consent choice) do not require consent because the Service cannot function without them. Non-essential analytics cookies are set only after you give consent through our banner, and you can decline or withdraw as described in Section 4. PostHog data for these visitors is stored in the EU.

California / other US state privacy laws. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising, and we do not use advertising cookies. Analytics are used only with your consent.

India (DPDP Act, 2023). Where a cookie processes your personal data, the DPDP Act's consent rules apply. Analytics cookies are set only after you consent through our banner; strictly- necessary and functional cookies operate as described above.

6. Third-Party Cookies

When you accept analytics, PostHog and Google Analytics may set the cookies/identifiers listed in Section 3. If you do not accept, no third-party analytics cookies are set. Our AI processing (OpenRouter and the underlying model provider) and our database/auth provider (Supabase) operate server-side and do not set cookies in your browser beyond the session cookie above. See the sub-processor list in our Privacy Policy for the full picture of who we share data with.

7. Changes to This Policy

We'll post updates here with a new effective date and, for material changes, provide additional notice before they take effect.
